September 2026 Angel Card Pull – Depth, Clarity, and Communication
I dedicate September’s angel card practice to the late and great queen of country music, Dolly Parton. Not only did Dolly change the landscape of the music industry and open doors for countless people who came after her, she truly embodied kindness. She loved for the sake of loving, a rare quality in today’s world.
Dolly was unapologetically herself, and I believe this is why she was so accepting of others. She understood that judging others is the same as judging yourself. I’m grateful for the legacy of generosity and care she left behind—and her refusal to let others dull her sparkle.
I have a photo of Dolly next to a small plaque in my office that says, “What would LOVE do? Choose Love!” Because to me, that’s the essence of Dolly. She showed us that you can be yourself, speak your truth, and still lead with compassion. May she rest in peace.
Our cards this month are depth, clarity, and communication. Below, I explore how each card connects with a part of the Eightfold Path, what Buddhists call the path to enlightenment. For each affirmation, I’ve included one of my favorite Dolly quotes.
In this lifetime, may we all experience the depth of our humanity, the clarity that comes from presence, and the freedom to communicate our message to the world. As a result, may we be compelled to lift others up with a loving spirit.
Here’s how the three-card pull works:
First Card: Reflects on lessons from the past and what you’re taking stock in.
Second Card: Focuses on what you’re cultivating in the present.
Third Card: Represents the outcome of aligning past and present energies. Past + present = the outcome.
September 2026 Cards
Depth – “Being a star just means that you just find your own special place, and that you shine where you are.” — Dolly Parton
Clarity – “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.” — Dolly Parton
Communication – “If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then, you are an excellent leader.” — Dolly Parton
About the Cards
Depth—Fourth Chakra—Right Intention
The first card in our practice is about learning from our past. This month, that means concretizing the depth and breadth of our experiences. Last month, our first card was education. Combined with this month’s depth card, we’re being called to reflect on what we’ve learned from our experiences, and to grow from them. Depth empowers us to transform internal and external conflicts into understanding so we become more grounded in who we are. This is where we begin to cultivate Right Intention: leading from an open heart rather than fear.
Practice: Approach life as your greatest teacher. At the end of each day, write down a lesson you learned. Keep it simple and doable: a few words or a couple sentences is plenty. Do the same exercise for your week, month, and quarter. What’s the lesson that bubbles to the surface from that time period? Notice the patterns that arise as time passes.
Affirmation: “Being a star just means that you just find your own special place, and that you shine where you are.” — Dolly Parton
Breathe in: I accept the past.
Breathe out: I expand love.
Clarity—Sixth Chakra—Right View
The second card is about what we’re cultivating now. Clarity comes from depth. The more experiences we have and the more willing we are to reflect on and learn from them, the clearer it becomes that we’re all connected. From this place, we practice Right View: honoring our interconnectedness and the impermanence of life through lovingkindness.
Practice: Simply breathe and repeat the mantras, “I know I’m breathing in” and “I know I’m breathing out.” This keeps you in the present. Spend at least 5 minutes every day with only your breath and these mantras. Once 5 minutes becomes a habit, make it 10, and so on.
Affirmation: “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.” — Dolly Parton
Breathe in: I know I’m breathing in.
Breathe out: I know I’m breathing out.
Communication—Fifth Chakra—Right Speech
The third card is our outcome card. Depth and clarity give us the foundation to express ourselves authentically and communicate our message to the world. With Right Speech in mind, we consider not only what we say, but the impact we’re having. Right Speech is about telling the truth and staying true to who you are, and doing so with kindness, compassion, and a generous spirit. In our society, harsh language is commonplace and many equate strength with belittling others. But as Dolly Parton so beautifully exemplified, real strength, honesty, bravery, and sparkle come from love. This isn’t about being Pollyanna, but about being centered in yourself.
Practice: Look in the mirror and speak a difficult truth. Practice hearing it, listening to it, and taking it in. Calm your nervous system by breathing through discomfort. Being honest with yourself is the first step to being honest everywhere.
Practice also being kind to yourself. If we view ourselves as interconnected with all beings, being kind to ourselves naturally expands our capacity for kindness everywhere.
Affirmation: “If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then, you are an excellent leader.” — Dolly Parton
Breathe in: I hear the truth.
Breathe out: I speak the truth.
We all have the power to make the world a better place. We start on the inside, and that energy grows. Don’t underestimate the impact you have. You’re a bright, shining star.
